A Double Banger!

Preparing for this next Sunday, I have a dilemma. On the one hand, most of us will be observing All Saints Day, one of the great feasts in the liturgical year. The actual feast will be a couple of days earlier than that on Nov.1st, but parishes generally observe it on Sunday, which is duly authorised by the calendar. This also means that we are expected to skip the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time, and to do so every year. No great loss you might think? Well, one result is that you will never hear anyone preaching on the story of Zacchaeus in Luke 19, nor on the wonderful passage where the prophet Habakkuk declares that the just shall live by faith, or even on the particularly bracing opening to 2 Thessalonians. Nor will I ever be asked to preach on these passages, for the same reason. You might gather that I am disappointed it works out like that, and that this explains why you can find my comments on both sets of texts by following these links …

31st Sunday in Ordinary Time

After which, you might like to leave a comment, on either page concerning the texts, or back on this one concerning my dilemma!
