This Sunday’s gospel reading pushes us to the very limits of our human capacity to express God’s grace in an imperfect world. Jesus tells Peter, and the rest of us who are his disciples, that there is no point at which we can allow ourselves to unforgiving, if we want to keep experiencing God’s forgiveness for ourselves. How can we embrace such a demand? Perhaps by framing it not as a demand but rather a searching question. At what point do we want God’s gracious compassion for us to end?
